About this event

Atlassian customers often rely on complex Jira Automation rules that become difficult to manage and maintain over time. As a developer, I focus on moving this complexity out of the automation builder and into maintainable code. In this technical session, we will explore how to build “smart” custom Forge actions to replace “rule spaghetti.” We will live-code an automation action that handles user and group lookups—including data from external systems—allowing you to update logic in one place without modifying existing automation rules.

Takeaways:

  • Developer Perspective: Why and when to shift from native rules to Forge actions.

  • Smart Lookups: Implementing external system integrations within a Forge module.

  • Live Coding: Configuring the automationAction manifest and managing data flow back to Jira.
