Native Jira does not have enough features to implement the techniques in the Kanban book unless you add one or two plug-ins.

Good Kanban requires a place to document Explicit Policies on the board, but this is very difficult to do with native Jira. Kanban literature shows many ways to set WIP limits, but Jira only supports WIP limits on columns. Kanban literature also shows grouping of columns into workflow stages, but native Jira doesn’t support this either.  Plugins can fix all of this and more.
