What is ShipIt?
Every quarter, Atlassian runs a 24-hour hackathon called ShipIt where they drop everything to make something awesome. It embodies their culture of innovation and puts weight behind a sacred company value: “Be the change you seek.”
What is ShipIt AUG Style?
Ideally, we would like your expertise to help improve anything related to the Atlassian community, Atlassian tools, but if you're passionate about something else (Addon/plugin/extension/bot) we encourage you to work on that. (Note: your solution doesn't have to be technical)
ShipIt is a team activity, this is your chance to combine ideas and skill sets with leaders from all over the country.
Traditionally, this is a 24-hour event. But you will get to start early and start your project. You and your team will have 2 weeks (27th April to 4th May) to work remotely on your project. You will record a video submission and send it in for judging (Before 4th of May).
Process
Pre-AUG ShipIt:
Assemble your team! Now is the time to start thinking about your ideas and who you want to work with. We have created a Slack Channel and Google Doc for you to post ideas and/or to sign on for a project. If you're not attending the meetup, no worries. There will be a two-hour working session. You can either stride or start helping your team during the remote phase. Brainstorming and collaborating is encouraged but no actual work can be done on the project until August 3. We will check in with you before AUG to make sure you have everything you need for the 4 hour-long working session.
AUG ShipIt:
Day of ShipIt (2-8pm on May 4th during AUG ShipIt)
Haven't joined a team? Have a great idea the day of? You will have a few minutes to pitch your idea or to join a team that you think you can collaborate with. Get to work and have fun! Once the planning time ends, you can decide the next steps with your team to ensure you're good to go.
Post-AUG:
You will have until August 3rd by end of day EAT to complete your project. Your team needs to have a 3-minute video sent to the Community Team describing your project. There will be 1 winner, the overall ShipIt winner that'll be judged by a group of AUG Members in attendance.
Note: Participants would be welcome to request free trials of our products that may help them from aug.atlassian.com
