About this event

It starts with Trust. As more and more personal information goes digital and into the cloud, privacy, transparency, and overall trust are more important than ever before. Atlassian’s

app development platform is designed for building secure, reliable, and scalable apps. Forge makes it possible to build a fully-functional app in just a few hours, with hosting, multiple development environments, and API authentication built-in. Forge can be used to create custom apps and integrations or apps distributed through the Atlassian Marketplace.

Forge apps are fully hosted by Atlassian. When you build a Forge app, Atlassian automatically creates your development, staging, and production environments. You can write a single function and it will run, significantly reducing the amount of code needed to write and operate an app.

This was designed to make operating your app easier and more secure, and to save you time and running costs.

Software constantly changing, with new vulnerabilities created frequently and discovered eventually

Deep Dive

Welcome to the Atlassian ShipIT Hackathon! We're excited to see the innovative solutions you'll create using Atlassian Forge. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare before the hackathon day:

Program Overview:

Pre ShipIT

    • Start by familiarizing yourself with Atlassian Forge. You can find all necessary documentation here. Make sure to go through the tutorials and understand the basics of Forge development.

Challenges to be solved:

  1. Task Automation Assistant

Challenge: Develop an app that automates repetitive tasks within Jira and Confluence, such as creating templates for common project types, setting up standardized workflows, or automating routine updates and notifications.

Key Features:

  • Automated task and issue creation.
  • Pre-defined workflow templates.
  • Scheduled reminders and notifications.
  • Integration with third-party tools (e.g., Slack, Trello).

2. Enhanced Reporting Dashboard

Challenge: Create a powerful reporting dashboard that provides advanced analytics and visualizations for Jira projects. This tool should help teams track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make data-driven decisions.

Key Features:

  • Customizable reports and dashboards.
  • Visualizations like charts, graphs, and heatmaps.
  • Real-time data updates.
  • Export options for reports (PDF, CSV, etc.).

3. Knowledge Base Integration

Challenge: Build an app that integrates a knowledge base with Confluence, allowing teams to easily access and search for relevant documentation, FAQs, and how-to guides directly within their workflow.

Key Features:

  • Seamless integration with existing knowledge bases.
  • Powerful search and filtering options.
  • Easy linking of knowledge base articles within Confluence pages.
  • User feedback and rating system for articles.

Key Features:

  • Real-time security alerts and notifications.
  • Automated security audits and vulnerability scanning.
  • Compliance tracking and reporting (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Access control and permission management.

Program

  1. Form a Team
    • Collaborate and form a team on Slack or work independently if you prefer. If you’re forming a team, create a dedicated Slack channel for communication and collaboration. Ensure every team member is clear about their roles and responsibilities.
  2. Build
    • Begin brainstorming and developing your project idea using Atlassian Forge. Utilize the pre-hackathon period to lay the groundwork, set up your development environment, and start coding. Focus on building a functional and innovative solution that addresses a real problem.
  3. Day of the ShipIT: Present Your Solutions
    • On the day of the hackathon, be ready to present your solution to the judges and other participants. Prepare a concise and compelling presentation that highlights the problem, your solution, the technology used, and the impact of your project.

      • Note
        • Prize: $200 for app published and accepted on Atlassian Marketplace

Post ShipIT

  1. Publish it on Marketplace
    • After refining your project based on feedback, publish your solution on the Atlassian Marketplace. This step is crucial for gaining visibility and user adoption. Follow the guidelines provided in the documentation to ensure your app meets all requirements.
    • Check out this guide to learn best practices for listing your app plus access additional resources to guide your sales strategy.
  2. Participate in Codegeist
    • Finally, enter your project into the Codegeist competition 2024 once it opens. Codegeist is an excellent platform to showcase your work, compete with other talented developers, and win exciting prizes. Make sure to adhere to the submission deadlines and criteria.
