About this event

Join a 24-hour hackathon called ShipIt where Atlassian's drop everything to make something awesome. It embodies our culture of innovation and puts weight behind a sacred company value: “Be the change you seek.”

This is extended to our Atlassian Community Nairobi members to solve problems that they face in their day-to-day work/life.

What is ShipIt?

Every quarter, Atlassian runs a 24-hour hackathon called ShipIt where they drop everything to make something awesome. It embodies their culture of innovation and puts weight behind a sacred company value: “Be the change you seek.”

What is ShipIt AC Style?

Ideally, we would like your expertise to help improve anything related to the Atlassian community, Atlassian tools, but if you're passionate about something else (Addon/plugin/extension/bot/App) we encourage you to work on that. (Note: your solution doesn't have to be technical)

ShipIt is a team activity, this is your chance to combine ideas and skillsets with leaders from all over the country.

Traditionally, this is a 24-hour event. But you will get to start early and start your project. You and your team will have 4 weeks (1st September to 1st October) to work remotely on your project. You will record a video submission and send it in for judging (Before the 1st  of October).

Process

Pre-AC ShipIt:

Assemble your team! Now is the time to start thinking about your ideas and who you want to work with. We have created a Slack Channel If you're not attending the event, no worries. There will be a 4-hour working session. You can either slack or start helping your team during the remote phase. Brainstorming and collaborating is encouraged but no actual work can be done on the project until January 8th. We will check in with you before ACE to make sure you have everything you need for the 4 hour-long working session.

Atlassian Community ShipIt:

Day of ShipIt (2-8pm on 1st October during Atlassian Community Nairobi ShipIt)

Haven't joined a team? Have a great idea the day of ShipIt? You will have a few minutes to pitch your idea or to join a team that you think you can collaborate with. Get to work and have fun! Once the planning time ends, you can decide the next steps with your team to ensure you're good to go.

Post ShipIT

You will submit your app/solution for Codegeist Once it is Open.

Note: Participants would be welcome to request free trials of Atlassian products that may help them from ace.atlassian.com

  • Provide valuable user input to Atlassian so that they can keep making great products for us to use.
  • Network and build a support system with fellow Atlassian product users.

The Atlassian Community Nairobi encourages better use of Atlassian tools, shares best practices, case studies, and individual perspectives.

This is an open forum to discuss and suggest features and changes to Atlassian communities in building better products.
