MIGRATIONS and LIBATIONS

Dec 12, 2018, 12:00 – 2:00 AM (UTC)

St. Louis

Our last meeting of 2018 will feature two longer (20min variety) presentations and one shorter (~10min). Our feature talks touch on migrations of one sort or another and come from two notable sources: cPrime (Atlassion Solution Partner) and Slack. As for libations - this location allows alcoholic beverages so we'll have some good suds along with pizza and soda. Details on the event site...

About this event

Don't miss our last meeting of 2018

DATE: Tuesday, December 11.  TIME: 6pm (feel free to arrive earlier if that works in your commute; organizers will be there by around 5pm for set up).

Between 6 and 6:30pm, the pizza should have arrived and you're welcome to grab a beverage and a slice or two while you network or just grab a seat.  See the structured agenda lower on the page, but here's a detailed description of what's in store for our end-of-year event:

We'll start with a brief welcome and then will launch into our program. One of our featured presentation guests is Alison, joining us from her home base in San Francisco:

Slack Customer Success Manager Alison McPhail will be presenting Slack Overview and Your Questions

  1. Short and basic Slack intro (even if you've lived under a rock and haven't heard of Slack, this quick intro will get you up to speed)
  2. Overview of the partnership with Atlassian, including security and integration with their suite of tools (Why should companies - even highly secure orgs who haven't yet embraced the cloud - consider cloud-committed Slack, and what are some roadmap glimpses)
  3. A short customer story to demonstrate how it all comes together.  This one is about a customer who's moved from Hipchat (if you have Hipchat, you'll have to eventually migrate to another platform - Slack is one option to consider)
  4. Q&A - What are your burning questions for Slack?

Two of Alison's Slack colleagues also plan to join us for this meeting, so we'll have adequate coverage for questions on this hot topic!

Our other presentation - Making Sense of Atlassian Migrations - features long-time St. Louis AUG member and now cPrime employee James King

Here is how James describes his presentation:

Have you migrated from Atlassian's cloud offerings to Server, or vice-versa? Migrated to a Data Center deployment? Have you simply looked at the migration documentation available from Atlassian, and decided it was too complicated? And what about common plugins?!

This discussion will surround the complexities and caveats when migrating between platforms for all tools in the Atlassian stack. There are standard pitfalls, not documented in the migration instructions, that Atlassian service providers regularly face. We will give you an insight into what to expect, and how to handle it, along with a strategic overview of the differences between migrating the different tools.

Please see Alison's and James headshots and click their 'See Bio' button to learn more about them.

And we're not done. Sandwiched between our two featured presentations is a usergroup member's short presentation..

Thunder Talk by AUG Member John Clopton

John from Lumeris has volunteered to give what we call a Thunder Talk - a 5-10min short presentation. His topic: Kanban Kung-Fu

He will discuss how to measure and predict with flow in JIRA.  Short Q&A Included.

We think this is a strong program to close out a great 2018 AUG year.  We hope you can join us for these three presentations, meet the presenters and their colleagues, and come loaded with some great questions, a thirst for knowledge and beverages, and bring a healthy appetite.  See the structured agenda below for more info.

Oh, and of course we should have some Atlassian and maybe other swag as well.  See you soon!
